One-Piece vs Two-Piece Motorcycle Suits: Which Should You Buy?
A one-piece suit is a single full-body garment from collar to ankle: no waist zip to fail, no gap for leather to ride up in a slide, and the fit most track-day organizations in the US require. A two-piece splits into jacket and pants that zip together at the waist, so the jacket works on the street on its own. Textile one-piece suits are a different product built for touring and commuting, not for the track.

Type |
Best For |
Pros |
Cons |
|
One-piece leather race suit |
Track days, racing, fast road riding |
Continuous protection with no waist junction; meets track rules; lightest, cleanest fit in a tuck |
Less convenient off the bike; one suit for one job |
|
Two-piece leather suit |
Riders who want one set of gear for street and occasional track |
Jacket doubles as street gear; easier to put on and store; accepted at most tracks when fully zipped |
Waist zip is a junction point; slightly heavier; bulkier at the waist |
|
One-piece textile touring suit |
Commuting, touring, all-weather riding |
Waterproof, roomier, goes over street clothes |
Not a race suit; lower abrasion resistance than leather; not for track use |

How to Choose Your One-Piece Suit: Fit, Sizing and Setup
A race suit is cut for the riding position, so it should feel snug standing up and right when you are tucked on the bike. Five checks before you order:
-
Run the fit test. Standing, the suit should be tight enough that the armor cannot shift, with sleeves and legs sitting slightly short. In a tuck, shoulders and knees should line up with the armor and nothing should pull across the back. Full guide: how to make sure your motorcycle suit fits perfectly.
-
Measure, then pick stock or custom. Stock sizes run XS–5XL in male and female fits; check chest, waist, hips, inseam and height against the product size chart. Tall, short or between sizes? Custom sizing is available on every suit. Custom orders are final sale, so measure twice.
-
Choose your leather. Cowhide is the durable, value choice for most riders. Kangaroo is roughly 20–30% lighter at the same strength, worth it if you race or ride long, hot sessions.
-
Set up for your climate. Vented panels and the removable mesh lining handle summer; keep the lining in for spring and fall. More on motorcycle suit ventilation.
-
Check your track's rules. Most US track-day organizations require full leather: a one-piece suit, or a two-piece that zips together at the waist. Our track day gear checklist covers the rest of the kit.
Premium One Piece Motorcycle Suits FAQ's
How tight should one-piece leathers be?
How tight should one-piece leathers be?
Snug everywhere, uncomfortable nowhere. Standing, you should feel the leather across the chest and thighs and the armor should stay put when you push on it; sleeves and legs will look a little short because the suit is cut for a tuck. On the bike, the shoulders, elbows and knees should sit directly on the pads and the back should not pull. If you can grab a handful of loose leather at the waist or thigh, go down a size or order custom.
One-piece or two-piece: which should I buy?
One-piece or two-piece: which should I buy?
Buy one-piece if the suit is for track days or racing: there is no waist zip to fail, no gap for leather to ride up, and it is what most US track organizations require. Buy two-piece if you want the jacket for street riding as well; fully zipped, it is accepted at most track days. Every design in this collection is available either way, so choose the cut for how you actually ride, then pick the graphics.
What do you wear under one-piece leathers?
What do you wear under one-piece leathers?
A thin, moisture-wicking base layer, top and bottom, or a one-piece undersuit. It keeps sweat off the leather, lets the suit slide on and off without sticking, and makes the mesh lining feel cooler in summer. Skip cotton, which holds sweat, and skip anything with hard seams or pockets under the armor. Socks go over the base layer and under the boot. Here is our full guide to what to wear under a one-piece racing suit.
Can I wear a one-piece race suit on the street or for commuting?
Can I wear a one-piece race suit on the street or for commuting?
You can, and plenty of riders do on fast weekend roads, but a race suit is built for the tuck, not for sitting upright at traffic lights, and there is no jacket to take off at the café. For daily street riding, the two-piece version of the same design is the practical pick. More in street riding vs track riding suits.
Do you have waterproof or textile one-piece suits for touring?
Do you have waterproof or textile one-piece suits for touring?
This collection is leather race suits, which are not waterproof and are not built for long-distance touring or daily commuting in the rain. For all-weather riding, see our motorcycle touring suits, and read the difference between racing suits and touring suits before you decide. If you want leather on the street with more flexibility than a race cut, a two-piece suit is the middle ground.
How much does a one-piece race suit cost?
How much does a one-piece race suit cost?
Entry-level branded one-piece leathers start around $1,000, and pro-tier suits with airbag integration run $3,000–$5,000. Turbo one-piece suits start at $549 in cowhide and $899 in kangaroo leather, with CE Level 2 armor, custom sizing, free matching gloves and free express shipping included. We build in our own facilities and sell direct, which is where the difference comes from. Custom designs are priced on the custom motorcycle suit page.
